What is “polyethylene” foam?

Polyethylene foam is a synthetic resin made from the polymerization of ethylene. Polyethylene is one of the most widely used plastics in the world - products range from shopping bags, fuel tanks to packaging foam. It can be flexible or rigid and comes in a variety of densities.

Polyethylene is a closed-cell foam which means that it’s made up of millions of tiny, isolated bubbles. It’s closed-cell nature affords the foam some incredible characteristics: water and solvent resistant, antimicrobial, and notable strength and rigidity.

Polyethylene can come in many shapes and sizes. Box+Foam receives polyethylene foam in the form of long planks. These planks are cut to size then ‘stamped’ with a die. The die cuts the foam into specific shapes which we use for your unique packaging needs.
